With less than two weeks before the government runs out of money, House Republicans have released a short-term bill that would fund the government until Oct. 31.
However, the bill faces opposition from Democrats, who want to raise the debt ceiling and pass a $3.5 trillion social spending package.
It’s not even clear that the bill could pass the House, as some Republicans are threatening to vote against it unless it includes provisions to defund President Biden’s vaccine mandates.
If Congress fails to reach a deal by Sept. 30, the government will shut down for the first time since 2018.
