A group of House Republicans, led by Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, unveiled a short-term spending bill on Wednesday that would keep the government open until Oct. 31 and avoid a debt default.
However, the bill faces opposition from both Democrats and some Republicans, who object to its provisions that would ban vaccine mandates, defund Planned Parenthood, and restrict abortion rights.
The bill’s fate is uncertain as Congress faces a looming deadline of Sept. 30 to prevent a government shutdown.
