Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced on Friday that she will seek reelection for her US House seat next year.
Pelosi, who represents California’s 12th congressional district, said she decided to run partly to thwart Trump’s efforts to reclaim power.
“I cannot let him undermine our democracy,” she said. Pelosi, who is 81 years old, has served in Congress since 1987 and became the first woman speaker in 2007.
She stepped down from the leadership role in January after the Democrats lost the House majority to the Republicans.
